$19 a month for no contract smartphones!? Where do I sign up?

In a tough economy, saving a few bucks every month is something few of us are willing to pass up right now.  Republic wireless  is currently selling no contract plans for unlimited calling and texting.  Republic is also offering a mobile data plan to sweeten the deal.  Republic Wireless is offering, all this for only  $19 a month?

How is this possible you ask?

1.       Well do not count on getting 4G speeds for one, then again for some of us this is not much of a problem as there are still many people running 3G. Republic is piggybacking on Sprint’s network.  So take that as a pro or a con.

2.       Republic is hoping to use Wi-Fi in handling much of the data traffic, which for a 3G network can be a backbreaker. The devil of course is in the details.

3.       Republic is counting on the fact that many users are not heavy data users and believes the $19 price point will lead them to profits.

The big drawback for anyone wanting to use this phone is the need for having access to a wireless network, especially at home.  Given that, most people will not be using more than one or two gigabytes a month this can potentially be a great deal. If you do not have your own wireless network, you can always log onto a public network if you want to risk it and access your WiFi that way.

Currently, Republic Wireless is offering an LG Optimus running Android: Gingerbread for $99 through November 27th, 2011 when you use the promotional code “welcome19”. Otherwise the prices will go up to $199. If you like what you research and you’re ready to join up, Tecca.com offersa free early termination fee calculator. .  After all, no one wants to see the savings disappear under a cloud of nickel and dime fees from your former carrier.
